How rich are you? How rich do you think you are or aren't? Yes, we are rich in grace, but that is not what I'm talking about.
50 percent of the world lives on less than $2.50 a day. 80 percent lives on less then $10 a day.
(I have read these facts in the book 'Weird' by Craig Groeschel. You can google the facts, but I haven't found a site that I am 100% satisfied with.
If you earn more than 39K a year, you are in the 1% of the top earners in the world. For the first time I realize that the verses in the bible that refer to the rich, and their possessions, does in fact pertain to me. It is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:24
And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
No wonder the churches across this country are not full. We don't need God. We have all the riches and our needs are fulfilled. We may not see ourselves as rich, we all know someone with more wealth than what we have, but we are the richest generation to ever exist on God's Earth.
Mark 4:19
And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
Imagine, that our riches and blessings in this country are blinding our eyes and choking out the word. Riches though, are fleeting, and will someday be gone, but take hope in this.
Hebrews 13:5
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Regardless or our financial state, our salvation is permanent, and it is offered to all, rich or poor, small or great.
